Childhood ADHD and Obesity

What is really causing your adult obesity. Did it start in childhood? Do you have ADHD?

Diagnosis of childhood ADHD is increasing every year. On a consistent trajectory upwards, obesity is a rapidly growing problem over the past 30 years. There has been speculation as to a possible relationship between childhood ADHD and adult obesity, but there are no published findings.

For the first time, a long term study was conducted to determine a link between childhood ADHD and obesity later in life. The study followed both male and female children into adulthood.

This study found significant evidence alluding to a link between the two. Specifically in females. The study also observed whether or not stimulant use of ADHD treatment during childhood had any effects on adult weight gain.

The study found that females who have childhood ADHD are at a much higher risk, double to be exact, for becoming obese then their peers, or male children who have ADHD, with or without the use of stimulants.

Although the exact mechanism causing this is unknown this study tells us that children (especially females) who have ADHD should begin taking preventative measures against developing obesity. There is a greater need now for knowledge of this association. Children should all practice healthy eating and have active lifestyles. Parents can help to develop a routine to guide their child to eat better and become more active to prevent obesity.

The researchers who discovered this are currently working on the exact links. These findings are crucial because parents can now take the extra measures to maintain their child's health. Preventing obesity is easier then reversing it.

At Second Nature Care I identify the root cause of your child's ADHD which often involves heavy metal poisoning, poor dietary habits and disturbed gut flora. There are safe and effective alternatives for your child's stimulant use to control their ADHD.

Help your child to live a healthy happy life. Take them off the harmful stimulants and lets work together to control their ADHD while maintaining a lifestyle that will prevent future obesity.

If you are an obese adult we can address your adulthood obesity issues.
