Could your IBS diagnosis really be eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders (EGIDs) ? EGIDs are a cluster of conditions that can go overlooked, undiagnosed and are rarely recognized. EGIDs are characterized by eosinophilic infiltration of either the gastrointestinal mucosa or bowel wall.
Patients with EGIDs are often misdiagnosed as having IBS or other disorders. Common symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Symptoms can progress to GI bleeding and malabsorption due to protein wasting. (Gruszecki, 2022)
