Depression has a major impact on migraine.

It is no surprise that migraine and depression are linked because they are treated very similarly. Both are heavily effected disturbances in the intestinal microbiome. A new study finds that there is a significant correlation.

In patients with episodic migraine, depression was associated with increased risk. The severity of the depression also had an interaction with the severity of the migraine and the likelihood of it becoming chronic.

From mild to severe depression the odds of new-onset of migraine also occurred. The study that made the discovery also suggests that in patients with chronic migraines, depression should be searched for. It is hoped that treating the depression as a separate entity in these patients, the intensity and occurrence of migraine should lessen.

Migraine sufferers need something to prevent disabling headaches.  When struck with a headache most people with migraines will go into headache hibernation - a dark room, no light, no food and try to sleep it off. They usually emerge two days later and feel terrible about their lack of quality of life. We identify food allergies, change diets and clean up the gut.

Another cause for migraines and depression related to the gut could be an allergy to gluten. Consumption of gluten in patients with a sensitivity or Celiac disease can cause migraines, tension headaches, and cluster headaches.

Depression can also stem from irregularities in the intestinal microbiome. Naturopathic medicine offers an array of treatments for depression. The holistic approach focuses on you as the individual and finds the root cause of your condition. Often times, depression stems from an imbalance in the intestinal microbiome. We offer Good Gut probiotics as a front line approach to regulating the gut. We also offer colonic therapy and I.V. amino acid therapies.

If you are suffering with depression and do not want to take harmful medication to feel better again you can visit us at Second Nature Care. We will work out a plan that is best for you.
