Fatty Acid and Lupus

Fatty acid can prevent common lupus trigger. An omega-3 fatty acid, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) can prevent a known trigger of lupus.

A study conducted in mice found that lung lesions caused by inhaling crystalline silica were dramatically reduced after consuming the DHA.

The mice were already genetically prone to lupus, and the consumption of DHA prevented the autoimmune response activated by the crystalline silica.

Lupus can be triggered by crystalline silica, or quartz. When this is the trigger, DHA fatty acid is able to block the activation of the disease.

Quarts is the most common and dangerous form of crystalline silica. Its mineral dust can be inhaled, especially in workers in the agriculture, construction and mining fields and over 2 million workers are exposed to high concentrations.

-  “Ninety-six percent of the lung lesions were stopped with DHA after being triggered by the silica,” said co-lead author Jack Harkema, DVM, PhD, Pulmonary Pathologist and Distinguished Professor at MSU’s Institute of Integrative Toxicology. “I’ve never seen such a dramatic protective response in the lung before.”

Other studies have shown that omega-3 fatty acids can suppress and sometimes even reverse innate immune inflammation.

This study is a clear indication that DHA can prevent this particular environmental trigger of lupus.

Lupus is also triggered in the gut. Inflammation breaks the tight junctions and creates gaps or pores in the GI lining.  Pathogens, environmental toxins, food proteins and medications are then absorbed into the bloodstream and transported to the liver.  Food and toxic molecules that leak through the lining cause systemic inflammation throughout the body affecting the brain, joints, pancreas, liver, thyroid, female and male reproductive organs, skin, gastrointestinal issues and the heart.

Xymogen offers DHA omega - 3 fatty acid supplements called Omega Pure DHA.

Second Nature patients with Lupus are checked for gluten tolerance, hidden food sensitivities, gastrointestinal infections, heavy metal toxicity and vitamin D deficiency.  Our Lupus patients make necessary and life-saving changes to protect their health.
