Ozone therapy safely and effectively relieves chronic back pain.
Traditionally, back pain has been managed with epidural steroid injections or ESI's. Now the FDA is saying those steroid injections have significant risks for serious and irreversible neurological adverse events including: stroke, paralegia, spinal cord infarction and even death.
Back pain is the most common of all chronic pain disorders with a lifetime prevalence to be between 54% to 80%. Epidural injections, with about 9 million injections a year in the US alone, is a common procedure for spinal pain management. The FDA has never approved an injectable steroid via epidural injection so this is considered "off label use". The FDA does regulate the medications used in this procedure.
There seems to be a difference between particulate corticosteroids compared to nonparticulate formulations of corticosteroids - suspension vs. solution. The particulate form may clump together and block arteries. Not a good idea for arteries that feed the brain.
One doctor was quoted as saying, "Why would anyone want to have sludge injected into the artery that goes to their brain?"
Oxygen-ozone treatment was highly effective in relieving acute and chronic lower back pain and sciatica. The mixture can replace epidural steroid injections. What I have seen work is ozone therapy injections with permanent results after 3-5 injections. We offer prolotherapy/ozone therapy injections in our Piermont office for large joints. Patients experience great pain relief with I.V. ozone therapy. We offer ozonated saline and MAH or major autohemotherapy.
If you have chronic pain, you need to include ozone therapy in your treatment protocol.
