Your Gut Restoration begins with Good Gut Products www.secondnaturecare.com

It's all about balance and keeping everything in its place.

When pathogenic bacteria overgrow in our intestinal tract due to leaky gut we have serious health consequences.  Consequences of intestinal inflammation linger for weeks beyond the point of detectable inflammatory markers - lymphocytes, plasma cells, mast cells and altered neurotransmitters.

Bacterial overgrowth can be found in the oral cavity and in the small intestines.  This intestinal overgrowth called SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) produces a toxic gas called hydrogen sulfide when the gas contacts heavy metals or amalgam fillings in the mouth.  Hydrogen sulfide is a colorless, flammable and water-soluble gas that smells like rotten eggs.  More potent than cyanide, this toxic gas inhibits mitochondrial respiration by blocking cytochrome c oxidase.  Hydrogen sulfide is normal in balanced amounts in the body, but an overgrowth causes the intestinal epithelial barrier to break down.

Most people with SIBO have BAD BREATH.  We offer the SIBO test in NY. We test for hydrogen and methane.

Increased levels of hydrogen sulfide create more ROS or reactive oxygen species which limits the amount of energy produced in the mitochondria and that results in tissue damage and finally, cell death.

Researchers know that hydrogen sulfide is involved in long-term chronic gut inflammation which leaves cells without oxygen and energy.  Hydrogen sulfide, present in gut nerves, in humans, is a unique gut-signaling molecule that increases neuronal electrical activity and mucosal secretion.

Second Nature patients follow the GOOD GUT protocol and use Xymogen's VegaPro protein mix with zero carbs and add in OptiFiber SCFA to increase short chain fatty acids.

Chronic illness causes mitochondrial failure. What is mitochondrial failure?

The mitochondria is a cellular factory that uses fuel molecules from foods to produce energy.  This is how we make ATP or adenosine triphosphate which turns into ADP.  This releases energy needed for muscle contractions, nerve impulses and all other energy-consuming processes that we use to make complex molecules.  ATP recycles every 10 seconds.  When the mitochondria is impaired the energy supply is diminished and an individual has chronic fatigue.  You can have enough mitochondria in numbers, but have multiple cells filled with defective mitochondria.  These cells cannot manufacture ATP or energy and you can accumulate a surplus of unused glucose molecules and oxygen.  The body runs short of ATP so it converts the glucose molecules into lactic acid.  The switch is called anaerobic metabolism (without oxygen) and the buildup of lactic acid called lactic acidosis causes muscle pain, aching, systemic soreness, heaviness that damages muscle and nerve tissue.

How do you fix mitochondrial failure?

CoQ10 is an antioxidant and mitochondrial nutrient that is essential for making ATP energy.  CFS patients have low plasma levels of CoQ10 and deficiency of this coenzyme is linked to fibromyalgia, depression and a risk factor for atherosclerosis.  CoQ10 is an anti-inflammatory agent and reduces tissue damage caused by gut pathogens.

Second Nature patients take Xymogen's CoMax Ubiquinol in high doses.

Did you know that Triticum aestivum, wheatgrass juice, restores your intestinal microbiome and is part of treatment for inflammatory bowel disease. We use Xymogen's Viragraphis, Curcumin ES and other anti-inflammatory herbs to treat inflammatory bowel disease. Everything we recommend is superior to placebo for inducing remission of disease and preventing recurrences.  In short, herbal therapies, omega-3 fatty acids, immunoglobulin therapy, butyrate enemas and colonics have all shown therapeutic clinical benefits in treating intestinal microbiome alterations.
