It's not in your head.  It's in your gut.  Changes in your mucosal lining in your gut lead to leaky gut and eventually autoimmune diseases like lupus.

The gut connection. It is the foundation of all chronic diseases.  Treatment must include repairing and restoring the intestinal barrier.  The gastrointestinal tract hosts 80% of our immune system.

Inflammation breaks the tight junctions and creates gaps or pores in the GI lining.  Pathogens, environmental toxins, food proteins and medications are then absorbed into the bloodstream and transported to the liver.  Food and toxic molecules that leak through the lining cause systemic inflammation throughout the body affecting the brain, joints, pancreas, liver, thyroid, female and male reproductive organs, skin, gastrointestinal issues and the heart.

Autoimmune disorders have been increasing over the past several decades.  Modern medicine does not treat or manage chronic disorders well.  Naturopathic medicine starts with correcting underlying gut issues.  ND's don't manage symptoms; they reverse chronic disease.

Many of the anti-inflammatory medications advertised on T.V. are potent immunosuppressive agents that come with serious side-effects - leukemia and lymphoma.  These drugs may initially provide some relief, but they further the pathological process.

Lactobacillus, a probiotic or good bug bacterium, has been shown to reduce the severity of Lupus symptoms.  In medical school I learned that a type of Clostridia, Lachnospiraceae, was associated with lupus and worsened the symptoms.  In recent research, Clostridia was higher in number in both early and late stages of the disease.

The use of probiotics, prebiotics and antimicrobials change your bad gut into a Good Gut and reduce Lupus symptoms.

I've had several new patients who are testing positive for Smith's antibody and show inflammation in their joints. They have elevated markers for low oxygen in their tissues, disturbances in the gut and impaired detox pathways.

Second Nature patients with Lupus are checked for gluten tolerance, hidden food sensitivities, gastrointestinal infections, heavy metal toxicity and vitamin D deficiency.  Our Lupus patients make necessary and life-saving changes to protect their health.

If you or someone you know has lupus call us.  We can reverse your disease.
