Everything you need to know about Lyme!
Lyme disease is the number one spreading vector borne epidemic in the U.S. and Europe. There are multiple species of which we don't even have testing for yet. It mimics other chronic diseases accounting for increased burden of those suffering from chronic illness. Modes of transmission of tick-borne diseases are increasing. Lyme disease is the "great imitator", imitating CFS, fibromyalgia, autoimmune and psych disorders.
Update from The 18TH Annual Lyme & Other Tick-Borne Diseases Conference - What Clinicians Need to Know about an Expanding Epidemic
90% of all bacteria hide in biofilms. B. Burgdorferi can tranform from motile spirochetes into round body and biofilm forms in the presence of antimicrobial agents. Biofilm formation enhances antibiotic resistance of the organism to various antimicrobial agents which previously showed success.
Most of our patients who have received oral and multiple I.V. antibiotics have said, "The treatment put me behind 2-3 years"
Ozone breaks down biofilms. We find that patient have the fastest recovery with weekly I.V. ozone and at home rectal insufflations and ozone water consumed daily.
Everyone with Lyme should get Ozone chelation
Essential oils can be just as effective as doxycycline - Oregano oil, Cinnamon bark and Clove bud are being studied at John Hopkins and this will be published later this year
Bartonella has many vectors - spiders, mosquitoes, sand fleas, ticks and mites so many of our deployed soldiers are exposed to sand flies which carry bartonella. Bartonella are fastidious Gram negative bacteria that adapt to a mammalian reservoir host and this bacteria causes long lasting intra-erythrocytic and endotheliotropic bloodstream infection which presents in humans with vascular, neurological and rheumatologic symptoms.
Powassan Virus is a flavivirus and causative agent of a severe neuroinvasive illness with 50%of survivors displaying long term neurological sequelae.
Alpha -Gal allergy is responsible for multiple allergic reactions and believed to be acquired from a tick bite. People become violently ill after eating animal products.
We have solid adult and pediatric Lyme literate neurologist referrals on the EastCoast. This is important if you have autonomic central nervous system dysfunction and small fiber neuropathies.
We are now partnered with an incredible lab - Empire City Labs. They accept most insurances, do not do balance billing and do your blood draw in your home at the time and day that is convenient for you. Instead of shelling out 700.00 plus dollars for a complete Lyme and co-infection work-up, the tests are covered by insurance. We can do Mycotoxin, food allergies, immune, autoimmune, genomics and much more for no cost to the patient.
We see new Lyme patients each week who have seen 10-12 doctors. They are misdiagnosed for 6-8 years. Insist on Lyme testing. Use IGENEX or Frye Labs for more accurate testing.
Emerging pandemic disease outbreaks threaten global public health. THe underlying factors that contribute to disease outbreaks are mostly related to environmental changes, ticks are emerging 3 weeks earlier due to climate change.
Don't be fooled by cooler weather. Use all your precautions all year round. In the Northeast, we are having unusally warm weather in October.
Ticks are associated with lyme disease and other co-infections such as borrelia, Ehrlichia, anaplasma, bartonella, Rickettsial infections :RMSF , Q-fever, typhus, tularermia, etc. The incidence of tick-borne co-infections is rising. The Deer Tick virus rates have increased from 1-2% to 5-6% in four years.
The Lonestar tick has been recently shown to harbor filarial nematodes or roundworms. The Lone Star tick once based in the Southeast is expanding north into The Great Lakes region and New England. One bite from this tick creates an immune response that makes it's victims allergic to red meat. It is usually permanent and patients can have severe reactions from hives to anaphylactic shock after eating beef, pork or venision necessitating them to carry an epi-pen at all times. Researchers believe this antibody immune response is to the tick's saliva. The tick may also secrete blood coagulants that thicken the victim's blood and create an invisible cloak or biofilm to protect the tick from treatment.
Our immune system is wired to recognize and fight any exposure to a carbohydrate called alpha-galactose. Alpha-galactose is present in The Lone Star tick and The Castor Bean tick in Europe.
"Tick-bite victims who have B-negative blood type are at highest risk for developing a red meat allergy."
Lyme disease can present itself as an acute or chronic illness. Acute symptoms include flu like symptoms such as fever, fatigue, swolen glands, sore throat, nausea and vomiting, headaches, stiff neck, photohobia. Bells' palsy and other neurological symptoms and rash are common. There are over 38 symptoms currently associated with Chronic Lyme disease.
Symptoms of Disseminated Lyme Diserase include neck stiffness with headaches, light and sound sensitivity, memory and concentration problems, vertigo, dizziness, difficulty walking due to infection in the CNS, tingling, numbness, burning sensation in the hands and feet, or face/scalp.
Symptoms can come and go, giving the infected person "good and bad" days. The symptoms are also influences by hormonal cycles, and antibiotics may increase or decrease symptoms.
Ticks have been referred to as "nature's dirty needle". Lyme-infected ticks transmit Lyme and a host of co-infections that keep patients chronically ill long after initial treatments. Drugs used for Lyme are not as effective for co-infections long-term.
We test and treat Lyme and co-infections. Ozone Therapy is a safe and effective treatment for Lyme and co-infections. Let's discuss which Lyme test is the best test for you. You have testing choices and treatment options. We have specialized medicines from Germany for Lyme disease and co-infections.
