Most of my patients are on Xymogen's NAC about 1.2 grams per day as part of their environmental detoxification or for cancer after-care. NAC is utilized by every cell in our body. Recent NAC studies show promise for other conditions. 47 infertile Italian women out of 92 with ovarian endometriosis and scheduled laparoscopic surgery in three months took 600 mg of NAC three times per day for three consecutive days for three months. These women had a change in the size of their cysts and 24 out of the 47 were able to cancel the scheduled surgery. 24 patients cancelled the surgery because of a decrease of 1.5 mm in the size of the cyst, 4 women had their cysts disappear and 21 women experienced significant pain reduction.

Ovarian cysts are caused by endometriosis and are associated with infertility. Endometriosis is an autoimmune disease that we have successfully treated at Second Nature. We will be using vaginal insufflations of ozone and I.V. ozone for this condition along with NAC in the next few weeks. The results achieved with NAC were much better than using standard hormone treatments even though the mechanism of action of NAC is unknown.

NAC for Gambling, Nicotine Addictions

Another studied used NAC in nicotine-dependent pathological gamblers that was recently published in The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry 2014; 75:39-45. Pathological gambling is an impulse control disorder with evidence of a subnormal concentration of glutamate in the nucleus accumbens in the brain which is linked to increased compulsive or addictive behaviors. NAC increases glutamate concentrations in the nucleus accumbens.

28 participants with nicotine dependence and pathological gambling received NAC and behavioral therapy for 12 weeks.  Initial doses began at 1200 mg per day and increased to 3,000 per day.  After 12 weeks all therapy was discontinued and participants were re-evaluated three months later.

28 individuals with nicotine dependence and pathological gambling received behavioral therapy (imaginal desensitization) and NAC.  Three months later compared to the placebo group NAC significantly improved the gambling severity.

Two great new clinical applications for NAC besides environmental detoxification. If you want really fast results ask about our I.V. glutathione or glutathione injections.
