Birth control shows positive effects for cancer risk reduction.
The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology recently published a study with new findings that oral contraceptives may reduce risk of some cancers.
The study, with over 4 decades of follow up, found that although the use of oral contraceptives saw an increased risk of breast and cervical cancer, that risk disappeared within about 5 years after stopping, but a protective effect against colorectal, endometrial, and ovarian cancer remained for more than 30 years.
That data was taken from over 35,000 women and it showed significant reductions in colorectal, endometrial, and lymphatic and hematopoietic cancers. Lung cancer was increased among users, but only in smokers.
While chemo and radiation might be effective in individual cases it is not necessarily safe or affordable. Two of our every 5 patients who follow standard of care for cancer get diagnosed with a secondary cancer.
