Following radiation for prostate cancer, patients are often left with few treatment options for future developing side effects.

Patients sometimes develop symptoms months and even years after radiation. Although there are several potential complications to prostate radiation, one of the more common ones is radiation fibrosis. If it progresses, it can damage microvasculature and make it difficult for patients to get an erection.

When tissue is treated with radiation, it enters a chronic inflammatory state that persists for a long time after radiation treatment is complete. A consequence of this is an increased production of fibrin which can accumulate and damage the tissues. Conventional therapies do little to inhibit this critical growth factor.

Fibrin formation can be reduced with daily Nattokinase. Xymogen's Nattokinase is an all natural potent enzyme extracted from natto and highly purified. Nattokinase has demonstrated a positive effect on blood flow in vitro.

However there is hope! There are several natural therapies that are well documented to reduce TGF-β1 levels. Three natural therapies that have major effects on post-radiation fibrosis are Curcumin, Alpha-lipoic acid and Reishi.

Curcumin SMADs are intracellular proteins that play key roles in regulating signals from TGF-β1 and influencing cellular responses to its actions. It is a well known, time tested (5000 years old) natural anti-inflammatory that suppress TGF-β1 induced Smad2 phosphorylation in a dose-dependent manner. Curcumin is safe at high doses and safe to take a hefty dose 2 days after radiation.

Alpha-Lipoic Acid is a potent antioxidant that has to reduce levels of TGF-β1. ALA's inhibition of fibrosis is through the reduction of reactive oxygen species. By helping to control oxidative damage, ALA reduces inflammation and the expression of TGF-β1 in the affected tissues.

Reishi has a long history of safe use with cancer patients. Although this mushroom influences several metabolic pathways, one of the key pathways which is inhibited by Reishi and is relevant to cancer is kappa-B. Inhibition of TGF-β1 will reduce activity of kappa-B and Reishi has been shown to significantly reduce both.

Radiation fibrosis can no longer be classified as irreversible dead scar tissue.  There are a wide range of Naturopathic medicines that can influence the metabolic pathways involved in the initiation and progression of radiation fibrosis. Effectively treating radiation fibrosis requires immediate treatment after radiation.

We offer IV ozone and nutrient therapies that cater to your specific health needs. We have specialty IVs with both curcumin and alpha-lipoic acid.

We have the Major Detox Now IV: This powerful treatment only contains ALA or Alpha Lipoic Acid which cannot be combined with any other ingredient. Alpha Lipoic Acid crosses the blood brain barrier and crosses over cell membranes to provide super cellular detoxification.

Along with many others. Check out our IV menu of services to see what we have for you!
