Steroid Injections - Are they Worth it? Prolozone

Are steroid injections causing more harm than relief?

A recent trial study compared Triamcinolone injections with placebo for knee osteoarthritis.

Not only did the study find that the steroid injection did not improve pain or function scores, but that it also may increase cartilage breakdown. The study appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The shots are no better than saline and possibly worse. This particular study randomized 140 patients with knee osteoarthritis to steroid or saline injections every12 weeks for 2 years. They were asked about pain level and function at every visit.  The patients not only had osteoarthritis but also all had evidence of synovitis making them great candidates for steroid injections.

There was no significant differences found between pain or function, stiffness or walk time. The only significant difference between groups was the change in cartilage thickness.

We offer prolozone therapy/ozone therapy injections in our NYS office for large joints. Prolozone injections reduce pain and inflammation and are steroid-free. The second injection is formulated to repair and rebuild damaged tissue. Patients experience great pain relief with I.V. ozone therapy.  We offer ozonated saline and MAH or major autohemotherapy for systemic pain due to cancer, Lyme, autoimmune conditions. All I.V. therapies are MD ordered in NYS.

If you have chronic pain, you need to include ozone therapy in your treatment protocol.
