Keeping out the ticks! Extra protection.

If you are one of the many people who bought tons of emergency toilet paper at the height of the pandemic (and even if you are not) here is a great way to repurpose some of those cardboard rolls.   The CDC estimates more than 300,000 Americans are infected with Lyme disease each year. Let’s talk about some precautionary measures you can take to prevent Lyme and what to do if you’ve contracted it.

While one way to protect your property from the infiltration of ticks is to spray outdoor areas with acaricides (heavy duty pesticides) there are much less toxic ways of keeping your home safe. Two popular methods of doing this are “tick boxes” and “tick tubes”.

The tick box offers more controlled pesticide use. It uses a bait method of attracting small rodents in to give their coats a dusting of pesticides to kill any immature ticks living in the fur. There are some issues with this method, but it does provide results.

The tick tube is much less toxic and much simpler than the tick box. While these can be simply bought commercially, you can also make one at home. The cardboard tubes can be filled with cotton that has been pretreated with pyrethrins (insecticidal compounds found naturally in certain plants).

While the boxes are more effective the tubes are less expensive and toxic runner up.

If you are concerned that you may have already been affected by Lyme disease, we offer the two most reliable lab tests for Lyme and co-infections. iSpot tests for the bacteria or Lyme antigen and Igenex tests for several tick-borne infections.

We also offer I.V. ozone therapy which is safe and effective in the treatment of Lyme and other pathogens. Long-term antibiotic therapy is effective for about 20 percent, but it comes with a heavy price of side effects and can create new maladies like Neuro Lyme Syndrome with chronic brain inflammation and permanent brain fog.
