Does blue-green algae cause Alzheimer's?  Put your drink down and read this.

This question came up because Britain’s lakes have seen a huge increase in toxic algae.  Toxic algae is linked to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

Cyanobacteria AKA blue-green alage has been increasing in Britain's waterways steadily since the 1800's.

Several toxic colonies can contaminate our drinking water and cause damage to the liver and nervous system.  This can manifest as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease.

Over 100 lakes across Europe and North America were analyzed over the last 200 years and more than half of the lakes had significant increases in concentrations of blue-green algae.

What is causing this? Industrial site pollution, industrial fertilizers, rapid urban growth and sewage

FYI - Most water treatment plants do not check for cyanobacterial toxins in your water supply.

If you have a skin rash, gastroenteritis and or a respiratory condition - check your water supply for cyanobacteria toxins. Chronic low dose exposures overtime are the worse as they can cause liver tumors and hormone disruption.

Toxic algae blooms hurt us and wildlife cutting off oxygen supplies for fish.  Don't let your dog near the green scum.  Dozens are put down each year because they eat this toxic scum.

If you are taking blue-green algae in supplement form make sure you know your manufacturer's practices. How do they test, how often, what do they test for and are they GMP or good manufacturing process?
