Breast Cancer Prevention for Toddlers - Naturopathic Medicine

Written by Dr. Isadora Guggenheim | Dec 27, 2014 2:00:00 PM

Breast cancer prevention starts at age two.  Your diet, physical activity, and alcohol intake before the birth of your first child is later linked to your breast cancer risk for premalignant breast lesions and invasive breast cancer.

Did you know that 21% of breast cancers are diagnosed in younger women who still menstruate? Clinicians push screening and not prevention.  Screening for cancer detects abnormalites "after the fact".

Scientific evidence shows that what we do in childhood and adolescence up to the age of 30 is the driving force behind the risks for breast cancer.  Breast cancer is still the number-one cancer diagnosed in women worldwide.  Cancer treatment is less responsive in women who still menstruate.

Naturopathic Medicine practices cancer prevention with every patient.  If you have two year old girls and up schedule your mommy and me 45 minute breast cancer prevention session.  This session is individualized and affordable. If you organize a group of moms and girls I'll come in and give a presentation with breast cancer prevention recommendations.  Learn how to model healthy behaviors for your daughters.

Parents have an influence over their children's behavior until about age 8 or 9.  Good behaviors are easier to maintain if they are started early and reinforced at home.

We'll discuss the importance of plant-based diets, healthy eating, alcohol intake and exercise. Alcohol is a known carcinogen and a big contributor to breast cancer.  Alcohol and obesity together raise your risk of breast cancer.  It is estimated that 32% of breast cancer cases could be prevented by losing weight.

We have several permanent weight loss programs at Second Nature.  Our HCG patients are continuing to triumph over weight loss.

Let's prevent breast cancer in the same way that we address obesity and diabetes with education in young children.  One less cancer helps all of us.
