Celiac Neuropathies

Feel like you're walking like a wooden soldier? Do you have nagging pins and needles sensations or tingling down your arms and legs?  Does pain disturb your sleep and keep you up at night?

You might have celiac disease and celiac-related neuropathies. We test and treat for both conditions.

Before I get to the groundbreaking new research findings - We had another great day in the Piermont Ozone clinic. Two new patients, one with chronic Lyme and another with chronic Epstein-Barr. During their I.V. ozone sessions both went into the deepest healing sleep I have ever witnessed. It was like watching someone take a long drink after crossing a thousand mile barren desert.

Just like all of our other patients, these two had tried modern medicine and reached an impasse. They had deadening fatigue and chronic disease related depression. At the end of each session - they both brightened because they were finally getting their medical needs met. Separately, they commented on how good they felt and booked sessions for next week. The treatment works and people return.

A sciatica prolozone case came in to report that her sciatica was cured after the first treatment. She came today to get her neck, rotator cuff and knee injections. She has no cartilage in her left knee and she envisions herself running so let's see if that will become her reality.

In fact, Swedish researchers found that individuals with confirmed celiac disease were 2.5 times more likely to have neuropathy. Makes sense to me. Gluten damages the nervous system.

Remember, celiac disease is an immune-mediated disease and affects 1% of the general population. The rest of us are just gluten-intolerant. Gluten-related injuries affect brain chemistry, melatonin production (insomnia), hormones cycles in men and women (testosterone production and menstrual cycles), blood sugar regulation in the pancreas, joint and bone health (osteoporosis) and the central nervous system (neuropathies).

Researchers found the absolute risk of neuropathy was 64 per 100,000 people in the celiac group within one year of diagnosis compared to 15 per 100,000 in the general population with no gender differences.

All of my patients with MS are advised to immediately remove gluten from their diet. This new research proves that gluten promotes chronic inflammatory demyelinating neuropathies.

Celiac and neuropathy go together like peanut butter and jelly. They may share the same risk factors and common underlying etiology that promote the development of neuropathy.

If you have celiac disease you need to be tested for neuropathy and if you have neuropathies you need to be tested for celiac disease.  I order celiac panels, celiac genomics and individual food allergies. We do aggressive gut clean up with diet, nutraceuticals, colonics and more colonics.  When the neurological line get crossed we do I.V. ozone therapies to repair nerve damage.
