Do you have COPD? Do you know what causes it? Are there natural treatments for COPD?

Do you struggle with COPD? What triggers your flares? Find out . . . .

Do you know which pathogens are responsible for COPD flares?

There are several including: bacteria, viruses and atypical bacteria. Some of the pathogens I see in my practice are Haemophilus influenzaeStreptococcus pneumoniaeMoraxella catarrhalisPsuedomonas aeruginosaEnterobacteriaceaeH. hemolyticusH. parainfluenzarhinovirus, parainfluenza virus, influenza virus, respiratory syncytial virus, adenovirus, coronavirus, and human metapneumovirus, atypical bacteria (Chlamydophilia pneumoniae and Mycoplasma pneumoniae), and fungi (Pneumocystis jeroveci). Haemophilus influenzae and rhinovirus are the most common culprits for exacerbations.

The best predictor of a COPD flare is the previous history of exacerbations. Present health status, reflux and increased white blood cells were also predictors. Increased white blood cells is evidence of an active acute or chronic infection. Reflux is a reflective of the gastrointestinal window and altered microbiome. As an ND, I would include diet, environmental exposures and individual genomics. Disease means change and I am here to guide you through your transformation.

80% of all COPD exacerbations are triggered by viral or bacterial infections. Environmental pollution make up the additional 20%.

Natural Treatments for COPD

OZONE THERAPY addresses viral, bacterial and fungal pathogens. We offer I.V. ozone and ozone inhalation therapy. We prescribe antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, herbal formulas and RX homeopathic remedies for COPD. There are prescriptive pharmaceuticals - B blockers, statins, inhalers and steroids that can be useful while you make your transition to natural remedies.

My first line treatment for COPD beyond diet changes and exercise is Xymogen's CurcuPlex CR because of Turmeric's ability to protect lung tissue. NAC is a wonderful mucolytic and taken daily raises glutathione in serum blood. Glutathione is the master detoxifier. Children do well with Respiguard Glycerite (without alcohol) made by Wise Woman Herbals from Emerson Ecologics. This combination contains anti-viral and anti-bacterial herbs with Elecampane. Elecampane is an herb that is immunomodulating and tonifying to the lungs. Respiratory Support Compound for adults contains Nettle, Euphrasia, Astragalus, Bupleurum, Inula and Verbascum. It contains my personal favorite - Armoracia rusticana or Horseradish which I grow in my front yard.
