Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, also known as chronic autoimmune thyroiditis, is the most common autoimmune disease affecting the thyroid gland. When functioning properly, the thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate metabolism and other processes. With this disease, the thyroid is attacked by its own antibodies, leading to atrophy and decline in thyroid function. It affects women at a greater rate than men, possibly due to women’s low levels of androgens (i.e., testosterone), which protect against and treat autoimmune disorders. Often, cases of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis eventually progress to hypothyroidism.

A large percentage of our patients have Hashimoto's. We test every new patient for this condition with comprehensive lab panels to get real numbers.

Hashimoto’s is also correlated with other disorders. It is more common in people with hair, skin, and mucosa diseases; increases the likelihood of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), cardiovascular risk, infertility, inflammatory disease of the joints and muscles, and gastrointestinal (GI) tract problems; and lowers life expectancy.

Typically, multiple factors must be addressed to treat Hashimoto’s. The disorder is usually caused by genetic predispositions, infection, toxic products, dietary problems, and/or nutritional or hormone deficiencies. The most effective combination of treatment is diet-, nutrition-, and hormone-based. Eliminating inappropriate foods is important because they can cause leaky gut, which leads to bacteria ending up in the thyroid and triggering antibody production. Additionally, because they take longer to digest, protein-rich foods should not be ingested in the evening. Finally, to prevent an attack on the thyroid by antibodies resulting from a leaky gut, the article recommends intermittent fasting and probiotic supplementation.

We offer heavy metal testing, GI MAP to identify specific gut dysbiosis and full viral panels - all of these are root causes for Hashimoto's.

We have reversed Hashimoto's with diet, oral supplementation, I.V. Ozone and German biologics.
