Coffee is a super food!
Coffee not only helps you get through your day more awake and alert it is also an antioxidant rich super food full of phytochemicals, polyphenols and other nutrients. These nutrients reduce inflammation and neutralize harmful free radicals, reducing the risk of diseases such as liver disease.
Your liver is responsible for breaking down food, nutrients and drugs, regulating blood sugar and fats, and detoxing the blood. Damage to the liver is a medical emergency. Liver disease consists of conditions such as cirrhosis, hepatitis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and cancer.
The latest research has concluded that coffee consumption is associated with reduced risk of liver disease. It was reported that regular consumption of coffee can reduce inflammation in the liver and the chances of developing cirrhosis by 25-70%. The greatest reduction in risk was observed in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis. Although coffee cannot reverse liver damage, it can reduce risk. It was also found that metabolic syndrome, which is also associated with liver disease, also had decreased risk with coffee consumption. (Helschein, 2018)
Liver cancer is the third most common cause of cancer death. Researchers from the University of South Hampton and University of Edinburgh found that the more coffee consumed participants (over 2.25 million) had greater protection against Hepatocellular cancer, the most common form of liver cancer.
