“Before attending the Master in oxygen ozone therapy at the Unicamillus University in Rome, I knew nothing about ozone. From the very first lessons a world opened up to me, many working hypotheses found confirmation and solution. I understood in detail the mechanisms of action of ozone in medicine.”

This was from Dr. Marco Strovegli, current Medical Director of Anesthesia and Reanimation at the Ospedali Riuniti of Ancona, Italy.

“I started oxygen ozone on 10 Covid patients, and the results have been excellent,” continues Dr. Strovegli. “I had read about a study carried out in China where the clinical costs of two brothers suffering from Covid were compared, one treated with traditional methods and the other with ozone therapy. The difference in spending was remarkable. Not only is oxygen/ozone more effective and free of residues or adverse effects, it is also considerably cheaper. I tried to calculate the costs of Covid patients in Italian hospitals and I had confirmation of what the Chinese researchers claim.”

Dr. Strovegli’s comments were very well received at the end of the second level Master in oxygen ozone therapy program at Unicamillus University, obtaining top marks: 110/110.

In the interview given to “Orbisphera”, Dr. Strovegli explained that, in the pathogenesis of Covid-19, there are two most frequently observed clinical features: respiratory failure and secondary systemic coagulopathy due to the cytokine cascade. This results in hyperproduction of interleukins and hypercoagulability with diffuse thrombosis.

“Since the effectiveness of antivirals alone in the treatment of this virus has not been adequately demonstrated – stressed Strovegli –, it is reasonable to treat Covid-19 with multimodal therapies.”

“Ozone, he specified, is a multi-target drug with proven biological properties: it is an antiviral, it has the ability to modulate inflammatory interleukins, it is an antioxidant, an anti-inflammatory, an anticoagulant and has a vasodilator effect.”

Learn About Ozone

These qualities explain the excellent clinical results observed in Covid patients treated with oxygen/ozone therapy, both in the direct experience reported in the Unicamillus thesis and in the studies published in “PubMed”, carried out by researchers from different parts of the world.

Dr. Strovegli illustrated the details of the clinical study carried out on 20 Covid-positive Covid patients in severe pre-ICU conditions, ventilated through non-invasive systems, interspersed with supination and pronation during 24 hours.

The patients were divided into two groups. The first group of 10 was treated with conventional drug therapy, and the second group, also made up of 10 patients, was treated with Major Autohemotherapy, MAH, as per the treatment protocols of the Scientific Society of Oxygen Ozone Therapy (SIOOT).

The treatment and control period lasted from April 2021 to May 2021.

The clinical study showed that ozone is a very effective anti-inflammatory therapy capable of modulating the biomarkers of inflammation, and is cheaper and safer than biological or antiviral treatments.

“Ozone – argued Dr. Strovegli – is an effective and safe adjuvant that allows patients to be healed and hospitalization times reduced with a quicker return to daily life, achieving significant economic savings for the health system.”

According to Strovegli, in view of its effectiveness and low cost, ozone could be very useful for low-middle-income countries, where patients have to pay medical bills, economic possibilities are scarce and health systems have limited resources.

Speaking of the minimal costs of oxygen/ozone therapy, Dr. Strovegli analyzed in detail the financial impacts on Covid hospitalized patients.  He concluded that, in the specific case of patients treated with ozone, the savings compared to those treated with semi-intensive drug therapy was about 9,950 Euros per patient.

This statement is in line with the results of the “Recovery of Four COVID-19 Patients via Ozonated Autohemotherapy” study, carried out by a team of Chinese doctors:

In this study, the clinical costs of two brothers both affected by Covid and treated with oxygen ozone therapy and the other with conventional therapy were compared. The total medical cost for the patient treated with ozone therapy was about $15,000, while the younger brother, treated only with conventional pharmacology, cost about $139,000.

Oxygen ozone therapy is therefore preferred for its effectiveness, safety and cost-effectiveness

Dr. Strovegli has concluded by proposing that oxygen/ozone therapy be instituted from the first moment the patient is hospitalized, regardless of the severity of the infection. For Covid ICU patients, he suggested increasing the dosage and frequency of MAH.

Given the versatility of ozone therapy, Dr. Strovegli recommends using this therapeutic resource in most of the pathologies that afflict patients admitted to intensive care.
