Obesity and Diabetes and POPs

Not soda pop, but POPs or persistent organic pollutants which is in the plastic bottles that hold soda.  

Both contribute to diabetes and obesity in different ways.

Today, I'll talk about environmental POPs.  Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) do not degrade naturally and we are all exposed to them everyday. POPs are from a wide variety of chemicals from different industries. POPs are everywhere.  

Because POPs don't breakdown easily and they are everywhere in the environment and in our food chain, POP levels in our blood and fat tissue are high. POPs are diabetogenic meaning they cause obesity and diabetes.  

Obese individuals have higher levels of POPs than normal-weight individuals. The higher the level of POPs correlated to higher hemoglobin A1C levels. Elevated levels of POPs predicted the development of Type II diabetes.
