semaglutide

Dr. Enzenbacher has found great success with the medication Semaglutide for weight loss. Semaglutide is a glucagon like peptide (GLP-1) made of amino acids and positively affects the reward pathway. It is classified a GL1-P agonist which means it acts as the naturally occurring hormone, Glucagon. It is a very natural weight loss medication. It works by decreasing appetite through a reduction in gastric emptying time, stimulates insulin secretion and lowers glucose in the bloodstream.

Dr. Enzenbacher’s weight loss protocol is done until desired weight loss is achieved, with monthly check-ins.  In conjunction with a recommended diet and exercise program (which will be discussed at your initial appointment) the semaglutide can significantly enhance your weight loss. You can expect weight loss of up to 15% over a 3-6-month period, losing about 1-2 pounds per week.

Semaglutide is superior to other weight loss medications. No more weighing and measuring food or eating bland pre-packaged foods. Individuals who achieve weight loss of ≥5% of their initial body weight can reduce their blood pressure, LDL, triglycerides, blood sugar as well as prevent Type 2 diabetes. Semaglutide can treat and reverse hypertension, hyperlipidemia, pre-diabetes and diabetes.

At your first appointment, Dr. Enzenbacher will discuss your weight loss goals, current diet and lifestyle. The medication is self-administered weekly. Your height, weight and % body fat will be recorded and your progress tracked monthly. Dr. Enzenbacher will be there to support you and help you stay on track.

Dr. Enzenbacher requires you to receive appropriate blood work to assess your HbA1c (average blood sugar over 3 months), thyroid function and lipid profile.

WHAT DOES SEMAGLUTIDE DO:

  • Stimulates Insulin Secretion
  • Controls Appetite
  • Decreases Emptying Time of the Stomach
  • Reduces Food Cravings

FAQ:
How does it work?

Semaglutide controls the appetite through the GLP-1 receptors in the brain.

GLP-1 is a hormone and acts upon cells in the GI tract where it stimulates the release of insulin from the pancreas in order to move sugar from the blood into other body tissues where it is used for energy. It controls appetite by slowing the emptying time of the stomach.

Is it Safe:

Studies have shown that once weekly dosing of 2.4mg of semaglutide provides safe, well tolerated and substantial weight loss for individuals who are overweight.

Is it FDA approved:

Yes. This natural weight loss medication was originally developed for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes. In 2021 it was approved by the FDA for the treatment of people who are overweight or obese.

What are the Side Effects?

Mild to moderate side effects can occur including: nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea and stomach pains. These side effects are typically short lived.

*Note: please notify Dr. Enzenbacher if you are experiencing any of these side effects.
