Women have a greater chance of having chronic illness like anxiety and depression, chronic fatigue, etc., than men. This “gender gap” results from both “biological and social factors.” It was also found that illnesses predominantly found in female patients are often misdiagnosed as chronic Lyme disease. This article aims to explore how women with these chronic illnesses, especially those diagnosed with Lyme disease, can be treated in accordance to the patient’s menstrual cycle and/or phase of life.

Mast Cell Activation Syndrome - How To Put the Fire Out
[fa icon="calendar'] Jun 3, 2020 7:05:33 PM / by Dr. Isadora Guggenheim posted in Mood Disorders, Allergies, Autoimmune Disease, Ozone and Prolozone therapies, Neurological Conditions, Chronic Illness and Disease
Many patients with chronic Lyme or other inflammatory autoimmune conditions have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome or MCAS. Many environmental insults contribute to MCAS and serve as triggers for lighting the fire within. Mast cells become activated and rupture releasing histamines into tissues and the bloodstream. This in turn creates inflammation in the body and abnormal immune responses. In order to address the other headlined condition - Lyme, inflammatory arthritis, Hashimoto's, sarcoidosis and such the fire must be put out first.

Light at the End of the Tunnel for Depression
[fa icon="calendar'] Apr 4, 2020 12:58:00 PM / by Isadora Guggenheim posted in Mood Disorders
Are you depressed? Do you have SAD? There is light at the end of your tunnel. The tunnel just happens to be your ear canal.
A new study has shown that transcranial bright light into the ear canals has an antidepressant effect in the treatment of SAD. 89 patients (67 females and 22 males) received 12 minute daily doses of photic energy from light-emitting diodes of three different intensities for 4 weeks.
Naturopathic medical scope of practice includes light therapy. I remember learning different ways of integrating light therapy into clinical practice. I have great SAD protocols with high quality nutraceuticals, intestinal microbiome make-over and I.V. ozone and amino acid therapies.

Using benzodiazepines** for more than 3 months may increase your risk for Alzheimer's disease.
If you think your insomnia or anxiety is bad enough to benzodiazepines, I think you should be more worried about significantly increasing your risk for Alzheimer's.
