Using benzodiazepines** for more than 3 months may increase your risk for Alzheimer's disease.  

If you think your insomnia or anxiety is bad enough to benzodiazepines, I think you should be more worried about significantly increasing your risk for Alzheimer's.

Even when patients test negative for celiac disease, immediate food allergies or negative for HLADQ2 or DQ8 they restrict gluten because they feel better without it.

Are we swimming in the wrong direction by taking fish oils? Dr. Peter D'Adamo posted an interesting review about fish oils in his Generative Medicine group on Facebook. It caught my eye because I believe in good scientific discourse, skepticism and careful analysis of all kinds of medicine whether it is naturopathic or allopathic. The review clearly stated that "there could be no possible expectation of general patient benefit with prophylactic fish oil use."

Americans are sleeping less than 7 hours per night and 30-40% are sleeping less than 6 hours per night. Poor sleep hygiene is linked to metabolic syndrome. When you don't sleep you crave more refined carbs and sugar. If you eat those carbs your lack of sleep increases your fasting blood sugar levels and postprandial or after meal glucose. Where are your dopamine levels? High, low or just right? Your brain goes out of sync with the rest of you when dopamine levels are elevated. 

I check most patients for dopamine levels with salivary and blood baseline labs. If someone has a mood disorder dopamine, cortisol, serotonin and other neurotransmitters are on the list.
