How to tell if your gut-brain axis is balance and what to do if it is not!

Is it butterflies in your tummy or a gut-brain axis imbalance?

You cannot have good health without a healthy gut microbiome as it is intertwined with not only the other microbiomes in the body, but the brain as well.

The gut-brain axis refers to the way the communication system between the gut and brain which is heavily influenced by the gut microbiota.  This axis has become a focal point of research in various fields that explore the underlying biological and physiological mechanisms of neurological, neurodevelopmental, psychiatric, and age-related disorders. (Linder, 2023)

Another connection between the gut and brain is that they are both derived from the same embryonic tissue, sharing the same form of communication with neurotransmitters and peptide hormones.

The microbiota is formed by the trillions of bacteria, fungi, viruses and other microbes. They produce vital nutrients, regulate inflammation and support immune system functioning. (Linder, 2023)

An imbalance between the harmful and beneficial bacteria can lead to autoimmune diseases, mental health conditions and digestive disorders.

The microbiota also helps to maintain a healthy balance between harmful and beneficial bacteria in the gut, and when this balance is disrupted, it can lead to a range of health issues, including autoimmune diseases, mental health conditions, and digestive disorders.

The microbiome, which encompasses the genomic contribution of microorganisms, plays a critical role in various processes crucial for human survival, such as digestion, hormone synthesis, and immune system function. (Linder, 2023)

Factors that can influence an individual's  microbiota are mode of birth deliver, childhood infections , use of antibiotics, nutrition and diet quality, environmental exposures, genetics, stress, and sleep.

Common signs of an disrupted gut-brain axis include poor cognitive functioning, digestive problems, mood disorders, fatigue and autoimmune disorders.  Weight gain, skin conditions and food cravings are also signs.

Research reports indicate that the gut-brain axis can be influenced by supporting healthy intestinal barrier function, stress response and cellular function.

We offer I.V. Ozone to oxygenate all tissues and biologics to address the gut-brain connection.

Naturopathic medicine has been aware that many chronic disease patterns begin in the gut. Naturopathic treatment focuses on repairing the gut flora to prevent disease and to prevent progression of existing disease patterns.

We start with our good gut protocol, changing the diet, daily exercise regimens, healthy sleep and detoxification of noxious environmental contaminants.
