Mental health in adolescents.

Up to 80% of adolescents may experience mental health issues and these issues that begin before age 25 can get carried into adulthood with serious consequences: lower job productivity and lower income.  Half of all common mental disorders in adolescence resolve but many persist and practitioners need to treat these emotional issues seriously.  How teens are treated during their first mental health episode determines which way the path will go.  Teens can benefit from cognitive therapy, meditation, biochemical support, nutrition, community service and peer counseling.

Did you know that teens and adults with asthma who use prednisone are three times more likely to be depressed?  Previous research has linked depression to steroid use.  There are other medications like stimulants used in the treatment of ADD and ADHD that can exaggerate underlying depression or cause it so it makes sense to run a neurotransmitter test to get a baseline handle on how the brain is functioning and the ratio of specific brain chemicals. We test neurotransmitters in CT.
