Blueberries and Alzheimer's

We brought you "Pineapples and Parkinson's" now here is Blueberries and Alzheimer's. Unlike the Pineapples linked to causing Parkinson's, blueberries have been linked to helping patients with Alzheimer's.

This super charged berry is already known to potentially lower risk of heart disease and cancers, but can also be a powerful tool in fighting Alzheimer's disease.

After taking blueberries powder supplements adult participants performed significantly higher on cognitive tests then a control group receiving a placebo.

There has been previous animal research conducted also finding the same supporting evidence that blueberries are beneficial in improving memory and cognitive function.

The effects could be due to flavonoids in the blueberries called anthocyanins. These specifically have also been shown to improve the cognitive functioning of animals.

Eating blueberries or taking a blueberry powder supplement can be beneficial to anyone in potentially advancing their cognitive health.

Another treatment that has shown to be beneficial for the treatment of patients with Alzheimer's disease is medicinal marijuana. Marijuana contains delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or THC and low levels may inhibit amyloid beta plaque formation associated with Alzheimer's.  In vitro cell cultures, researchers found that THC did in fact inhibit amyloid beta production at low doses and it enhanced mitochondrial function. Mitochondrial function makes ATP your energy source, it transmits signals and maintains a healthy brain.
