A world wide review of migraine prevalence found the highest rates in Central and South America at 16.4% and the lowest in North America at 9.7%. Migraines affect 1 out of every 10 people and are twice as common in females. Increasing prevalence in chronic health conditions such as chronic pain, sleep disorders, depression, and hypertension can lead to an increase in migraine prevalence because of the known multi-morbidity between migraines and these chronic health conditions.
