Healthy happy babies need high quality probiotics

Unfortunately, a probiotic has been linked to the death of a preterm infant.  The probiotic was contaminated with a mold that caused gastrointestinal mucomycosis, a life-threatening fungal infection.

All babies benefit from probiotics especially preterm babies.

The probiotic was Solgar ABC Dophilus Powder.  It was marketed for infants and children and was contaminated with a fungus.  The fungus was Rhizopus oryzae which caused mucormycosis.  An investigation at the CT. hospital found that unopened bottles of the same lot were contaminated with mold.

This product was distributed to 29 states, Puerto Rico, the U.K. and Israel.

Probiotics are being used in preterm infants because of the health benefits.

A product can be used with the best of intentions and have a poor outcome.

At Second Nature, we try to partner with the best nutraceuticals on the market.  We screen companies for high safety ratings and GMP or good manufacturing process.

Personally, I have never recommended Solgar brand vitamins because they don't meet my professional standards, but please pass this on to anyone who might have a new baby or who uses Solgar products.
