New benefits found for omega-3. Omega-3 fatty acid supplements can benefit just about everybody. It has the ability to help with cognitive functioning, rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes.

Brand new research conducted on what makes Omega-3 so good for us found that it may be crucial in fighting lung infections.

Compounds found in the fatty acid were effective at clearing up a bacteria called Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae, which is often the cause of inflammatory diseases of the lungs such as COPD.

The study used an inhaled omega-3 to test the prevention of lung infections in mice.

It was unknown why diets high in omega fatty acids were so good, but this study uncovered that it is because they provide the precursors for molecules that help to stop excessive inflammation.

The inhaled omega-3 reduced inflammation without suppressing the ability to clear bacteria. This compound in the fatty acid can improve lung function in the face of live bacteria.
