Binge Eating is not Overeating. It is a different eating disorder and we treat it at Second Nature.

What is Binge Eating? Can Naturopathic Medicine help me?

  • Binge eating is not overeating
  • It is behavior that happens at least once a week for 3 months
  • It involves consuming large quantities of food in a short period of time
  • The binge eater feels out of control and is stressed about their eating
  • Most binge eaters feel shame and guilt about their binging
It is not bulimia nervosa (throwing up after binging).  It is not associated with purging or excessive exercise or any dietary restriction.  Binge eating is more severe than overeating.  It is associated with significant physical and psychological issues.

Obese adults with binge eating disorder eat more calories, have more distress, impaired quality of life and have more psychiatric conditions.

Binge eating disorder or BED can occur in normal-weight, overweight and obese male and female adults.  How many individuals have BED in the US?  About 2.8 million.

We have medicine for altered brain chemistry.  We have medicine for guilt and shame.  We have medicine for compulsive overeating.
