Celiac disease comes in many forms. Naturopathic Medicine has the right testing and treatment answers for celiac disease

Like assorted Christmas cookies, Celiac disease and its symptoms come in a variety of presentations. The old cookie mold has broken or maybe there was no mold.  Every Second Nature patient gets tested for celiac disease and for underlying celiac genetics.  I still see patients at their wit's end coming from other practitioners because they will not run the necessary tests. They don't listen to the patient's story, they invalidate their symptoms and refer them to a psychiatrist.

Naturopathic Medicine treats celiac disease and cures leaky gut.

Celiac presentation does not mean that you have persistent diarrhea or intractable abdominal pain; you can present with silent symptoms like: osteoporosis, joint pain, migraine headaches, cognitive issues, anemia, insomnia or menstrual irregularities.   Patient with celiac can also present with thyroid disease (the most common), constipation, bloat, alternate bowel habits, general nausea, some vomiting and gastro-esophageal reflux.

A new Italian study found that many with celiac presented with extra-intestinal manifestations.  Iron-deficiency anemia, unexplained osteoporosis, abnormal liver function tests and recurrent miscarriages.

Celiac is not a rare pediatric disease.  It is the most common autoimmune disease and it is still an undiagnosed disease in people even in their seventies.  Anyone can have celiac disease.

Why isn't celiac caught earlier?  Because doctors are not testing and the patient has not experienced severe symptoms of gluten intolerance yet.  Now anyone in the United Kingdom with iron-deficiency anemia or migraine is tested for celiac. Dr. Green, celiac specialist and head of the gastroenterology department at Columbia, says that only 17% of people with celiac are diagnosed in the USA.

Test, test, test before you switch to a gluten-free diet.  Once diagnosed, switch to a gluten-free and I recommend grain-free diet for faster healing.  Researchers say that the gut heals faster from heroin addiction (3 years) than from gluten enteropathy (5 years).  Avoiding grains heals the gut and prevents further complications from grain intolerance.
